Artist’s Statement
“Art has been part of my life for as long as I can remember — through high school, college, and every chapter since. Creating has always felt less like a choice and more like a necessity; though life has pulled me away at times, I have always found my way back.
After retiring, I turned to abstract painting, deepening my practice through courses, workshops, and seminars. Making art has always been a source of grounding and self-discovery. I work from feeling rather than observation, and the surprises that emerge in the process often carry a symbolic meaning I didn't anticipate. I always hope that my art will resonate with others on a personal level.”
Process
“My process is a dialogue between the soul and the surface. I don’t paint what I see — but rather, what I feel. Drawing from a deep well of internal memories and subconscious cues, each piece evolves organically.
Working with acrylics and an array of mixed media — collage, pencil, paint pens, markers, and pastels — a history begins to build on the canvas or wood panel. I use various tools such as awls, knives, paint scrapers, nails and sandpaper to reveal previous layers, and discover unexpected visual surprises beneath the surface that become part of the work. Some pieces emerge bold & vibrant, while others are softer and more calm.
My art is about what lives underneath my own emotional surface - feelings, memories, and symbolism that can’t quite be expressed in words. Color, shape, line, and texture become the language of my expression.
It is always my hope that people will find something in my work that resonates for them both visually and on an emotional level.”
Framing vs not Framing
Whether you choose have your new painting in a frame or not, is up to your personal preference, budget, and home decor. I create my artwork on a variety of high-quality surfaces, each offering unique display possibilities:
Flat Boards (1/4" thick): These can hang without a frame using a wire on the back for a sleek, modern look. However, adding a frame always elevates a flat board, giving it a more substantial, presence on your wall.
Cradled Boards (1.5" to 2" deep): These do not need to be framed. The deep wooden edges give the artwork the same structural presence as a frame, while keeping the visual focus entirely on the painting itself.
Canvases: Gallery-wrapped canvases (1.5" to 2" deep) are designed to hang unframed. Regular canvases (1/2" deep) look perfectly fine on their own, but can also be framed for added depth.
Finishing Touches
All my paintings come with a wire for hanging.
I always paint the exposed edges of my canvases to harmonize with the artwork. I typically leave the wooden frames unpainted and apply a protective varnish to highlight the natural beauty of the wood, although they can also be painted upon request.
The type of frame I use are “Floating Frames”. They add depth around the sides of the painting while only surrounding the front of the painting with a narrow edge which give a very clean professional look to your painting.
Available Sizes: I can provide frames for 12x12 and 18x18 paintings.
Larger Pieces: Framing for any artwork larger than 18x18 is the responsibility of the customer.
Pricing: A custom floating frame adds approximately $100 to the final price of the painting.
